Plastic Straw Ban

25th September 2020 by John Reeves

The UK Government Plastic Straw Ban (including drinks stirrers and cotton buds) comes into effect from Thursday 1st October. The ban outlaws a hospitality venue from offering or displaying plastic straws to clients. They can however stock them and give them to clients who request them on the grounds of accessibility or disability requirements.

In addition, the Government have extended the deadline to restrict the wholesale selling of straws until April 1st 2021. If a wholesaler had purchased stock prior to October 1st 2020, they can now continue to sell these until April next year

Plastic straws which are attached to drinks cartons are not affected by this deadline, the restriction affecting those products comes into force on July 3rd 2021.
